About Iceberg Labs

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing more to remove.
— Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

For most of software’s history, what we could build was bounded by natural limits. Limited time, limited people, limited compute. Prioritization and focus weren’t virtues so much as byproducts of constraint. Scarcity was the editor, forcing a careful consideration of what was worth building at all.

Today that constraint is gone. Models, agents, and capabilities multiply every month, making it easier than ever to ship more, but harder than ever to know what to build. Features accumulate, and products lose their identity and focus. The designer’s role becomes that of a gatekeeper of attention: deciding what is truly worth someone’s time.

Essentialism is the counter-reaction to the slop wave. Every product, like any object, has an essence: the few properties that make it what it is, and without which it would be something else. Few teams are capable of proceeding by subtraction, yet that is precisely what excellence demands. It is the discipline of finding that unique essence and carving away everything else, until what remains is a beautiful surface that’s deceptively simple.

That is the reason Iceberg Labs exists. Iceberg is an Essentialist Product Design Studio. We help founders identify and focus on the category-defining essence of their products. As company builders ourselves, we’ve lived in and navigated the ambiguity of 0 → 1 — the work of bringing something entirely new into the world, and we know how hard it is to do it well.

We take on only a few partners at a time, because the work happens up close, in the room with your engineers, in the details.

If you’re building something that deserves to be distilled to its essence, we’d love to hear from you.
